Professor Rea runs regular clinics for general ENT conditions in both children and adults at The London Road Clinic in Leicester.
He is just as happy addressing complex disorders as he is removing wax from your ears, and offers a gentle and welcoming environment when children are brought to see him.
As well as being a consultant in ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgery, Professor Rea is honorary Professor of Balance Medicine at De Montfort University, and Honorary Professor to the Department of Life Sciences at The University of Leicester.
His specialist practice for both ear surgery and dizziness draws patients from all over the UK and around the world. He has a state of the art balance investigation suite at The London Road Clinic, along with a dedicated and experienced team. He is involved in cutting edge research projects which have led to new treatments for patients with ear and balance disorders. He had a busy surgical practice, but still manages to treat the great majority of his patients without the need for an operation.
He began his medical training at the University of Cambridge, graduating with first-class honours before moving to the University of Oxford to complete his early medical qualifications. He obtained the coveted Gold Medal of The Royal Society of Medicine on completing his specialist training.
His specialist training in ENT surgery was spent in the major London teaching hospitals, including the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital, The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. He has also undertaken prestigious "fellowship" training in Australia and the USA, and is now able to offer over 30 years of medical experience having qualified in 1991.
He is currently the UK Secretary of EAONO (The European Association of Otology and Neuroscience-otology) and has been elected by a leading panel of ENT colleagues to be the President of the Section of Otology of The Royal Society of Medicine for 2023-2024. This is a huge honour. He was previously President of The British Society of Neuro-otology (balance disorders and dizziness) from 2014-2020, and President of The British Society of Otology (ear surgeons) from 2020-2022.
Professor Rea has appeared in both TV and BBC radio documentaries as well as in many articles in the nation press. He has authored a large number of scientific papers on ear nose and throat disorders and is in high demand as a speaker around the world, teaching other doctors.
